Writer's Prompts | The Wrong Words

In the Podcast “The Wrong Words” Tim and LeeAnna celebrate the delightful disaster that happens when people don’t share the same fluency—or any fluency at all—on tough topics.

Which brings a fresh challenge for you writers. The prompt: Keep it under 600 words.

Take two people with completely different communication languages. Put them together in a high-stakes situation. It could be a relationship, it could be a plan to rob a bank, or save the world; put them together and write about how that miscommunication will sow the seeds of future disaster.

And for writers who are feeling more uplifted and optimistic, take two characters and put them together, maybe over dinner. And it's the moment that they realize they are on exactly the same wavelength in terms of their language facility, finishing each other's sentences perfectly and in a constructive and beautiful way. The linguistic meet-cute.

Write whatever inspires you—just make sure it’s under 600 words. Pop it over to us through the submissions page. Who knows, maybe we'll even feature it on the podcast. Extra credit if you can write a linguistic meet-cute that also has within it the seeds of future disaster.
